Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is an American-born British sitarist and musician. She is also the first and youngest woman to win the British House of Commons Award. Anoushka Shankar is a rising star on the Indian sitar. She is the daughter of Ravi Shankar and a former student. She spent her childhood bouncing back and forth from London to New Delhi. At the age of 13 when her first performance was in New Delhi took place. Later she moved to Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. The career of Anouskha as a performer and recorder is remarkable, even at her young age. Her father has been with her in many performances for several years. Her debut solo album Anourag in 1998. The album was titled Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years following. As she's appeared on many of the biggest stages around the world, her career on stage is extensive. Her career doesn't just include the world of music. In 2002, she released an autobiography titled Bapi The of My Life. of My Live this is an illustrated biography that pays special honor to her late father Ravi Shankar. She also acted on film in 2003. Her role was a Bharat Natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shankar is an emerging celebrity and her popularity will continue to grow. Anoushka Shankar was born in England and spent much of her childhood in London and Delhi later relocating to California where she went to high school. Anoushka Shankar started her musical studies at age nine. After four years she performed her sitar debut in Delhi at her father's 75th birthday celebration. As a part of her dad's band as his world tour, Anoushka racked up a wealth of experiences appearing at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens performing at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival, and also making recordings alongside George Harrison. Her talent and musicality was recognised by British parliament as among the finest in Asian Arts.
